EVALUATION ACTIVITY 4 - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout the construction of all three of our ancillary tasks (teaser trailer, film poster and magazine front cover) we applied the use of Digital Technologies shown below.
Me with the Camera and Tripod we used:

Boom

Adobe Premiere

We used Adobe Premiere to edit our teaser trailer. This allowed us to identify the process of selecting and preparing shots and scenes using the effects that the software comes with to emphasise what we were trying to portray.

Slideshare

We used 'Slideshare' early on in our Research and Planning stages to involve and combine different interactive IT skills.
Youtube

We have used 'Youtube' throughout our foundation and advanced portfolio to both gain audience feedback and use as a free movie uploader, we have also been able to improve our knowledge of teaser trailer elements by viewing other uploaded 'Teaser trailers'.

Blogger

Blogger is a free web-blog publishing tool from Google, used for sharing text, photos and videos. We have used this throughout our foundation and advanced portfolio to publish our work from research and planning to our final edited teaser trailer, teaser posters and film magazine front covers. We have enabled access to anyone worldwide to view and follow our blogs allowing us to recieve any positive or negative feedback via email.

EVALUATION ACTIVITY 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?
The videos below show our audience feedback, this enabled us to hear other peoples opinions on all three of our ancillary tasks for the first time, receiving both negative and positive analysis. This allowed us to see if we have achieved our intentions and to what extent. It also helped Dave, Max and I to realise areas that we could improve on, and therefore re-look at certain aspects and adjust and edit them, to improve our overall product.
The comments below outline the constructive criticisms and positive feedback we received, from the audience feedback, the vast amount of points displays that this was very beneficial.
Positive
Good use of time stretch - manipulation of pace
Enigma - making the audience wanting to know more
Realistic
Pacey
Nice Length
Factors to possibly re-visit
Punch in face - see if the transition of face to blood trim down
Dialogue/ Voice over
Improvements
Wider audience
Magazine
Good choice of image (different from trailer)
Matches colour scheme
Right choice of magazine
Font matches teaser trailer
Poster
Good composition
Black and White
Portrays sub urbs well
Facebook Feedback
The print screened image below, is from when we first posted our Media Coursework onto the well branded social networking site; Facebook. This seemed the most obvious and logical way of getting as much feedback as quickly as possible. All of our friends were able to comment and or like the post, depending on what they thought of it. There was a fairly positive outcome as shown below, with a variety of comments and a large amount of likes.

EVALUATION ACTIVITY 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
This video below is the same footage as our final teaser trailer however, we wanted to emphaise the annotions, so using adobe have edited them in demonstraing all the attractions of our product so its made clear to the target audience.
I believe the positive parts of our teaser trailer to include the manipulation of pace used, there is a good use of time stretch, incuding an effective amount of footage in a reasonly short time frame. Also there is good use of enigma, the fast paced trailer will have the audience interested and intrigued however only shows a limited amount, leaving the audience wanting to watch on and see more.
However some factors to possibly re-visit would include the shots showing the punch in face, the transition of face the blood splatter could be trimmed down, or even from a differnet angle to improve realism. Also use of dialogue or a voice over, this would improve the impact from trailer to audience, at the moment theres limited parts for audience to relate to and get involved in.
Some improvements may include; aiming at a wider audience, improving link between magazine to film (same colour scheme, better choice of image (different from trailer), right choice of magazine, and font matches teaser trailer.
Audience profiling
I believe the typical audience member for our media product would be anyone inbetween the age of 15-24 who likes getting involved with deep storylines which relate to an urban reality of a the diversity between lifestyles of teenagers.
Below is Dan, he is 17 and is into squash and bmxing. Like many other teenage boys his agehe is likely to shop at well known outlets such as 'Topman' and website such 'asos' whom sell urban styled clothing brands, keeping up with what's new and fresh on the street. Dan is most likely to be found listening to the new form of drum and bass - dubstep, distinguished by it's two-step rhythm, again making him an ideal candidate to carry out research on as is common to others his age. Dan's favourite sort of TV programmes are going to be orientated around music such as; MTV and TMF channels, although he is likely to watch relating teenage series such as 'The Inbetweeners' and 'Skins'.
From this I have been able to draw conclusions about his likes and dislikes use them positively to help our film stand out to him. As Dan is keen on Music we could involve him and his social group with soundtracks to our film as did 'Adulthood' using Pathe institution when distributing their film they; used music as it has a huge influence on the target urban 16-24 year old audience. Their strategy was then to leverage this passion for music and tap in to the viral nature of social media to build credibility for the film, and generate early hype among a new 16-24 audience.

Below is Sophie, films these days can be hard to market and become successful, no film is aimed at either gender as theres a vast interest in film from our backgrounds genders and cultures. Therefore I found it essesntial to carry out my audience profiling on both genders. She is 18, her interest involve living the high life, whilst promoting for clubs around London and whens shes not doing that, finsihing her A levels at college. Sophie is also into the new form of drum and bass - dubstep, keeoing her knowledge of the underground music scene, to help her promote for her much loved clublife. Her favourite sort of TV programmes are going to be orientated around young lifestyles, e.g Skins, Only Way Is Essix, Easenders, however other than that, doesn't have much spare time for television.

The film had to feel niche, real and about them so the challenge was to talk to them on their level by infiltrating their worlds to give the film credibility.

EVALUATION ACTIVITY 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We created a urban drama teaser trailer with the aims to ensure we reflected this genre by the following use of typical codes and conventions: Gritty fast paced narrative, ccreativing tension and excitement, fast paced editing, the protagonist is male, suspense music used, start fairly slow, props e.g. cars to represent the age of boys, and show behaviour. To improve awareness of these codes and conventions we analysed urban drama teaser trailers: Shank, Kidulthood, 4.3.2.1 and also Green Street which is a slightly different genre.
Below is 9 screen grabs from our teaser trailer, edited together to show how I have used such conventions and codes of urban drama films to succeed in representing the particular genre.

The film title font has been put in a urban style, with all letters other than 'i' in capitals. This gives it a gritty look, conforming the the conventions of our genre.
The setting, location and atmosphere can be seen in the pictures, they all have a similar colour scheme which can be seen above in the screen grabs. The setting is generally at night time as well in order to match this colour scheme.
One way in which my teaser trailer uses conventions of real teaser trailers is by including the moving footage of media company logos that are designed to show which media companies have helped to produce the product. Most teaser trailers feature this with only a few exceptions. I think that including this feature gives my teaser trailer a sense of authenticity and professionalism. A secondary use that I found was useful for these small clips was that I could slow the pace of my teaser trailer towards the beginning by separating my filmed footage with the logos.
We chose to name our film Sub urban Nightmare, this portrays our storyline based around the struggle of an upbringing of teenagers, located on the outsides of London. We actually used the two local towns; leatherhead and ashtead to represent this, however through costume and camera techniques made an affluent area appear more rural then it was in reality. Choice of clothing came from insperation from films such as kidulthood and 4.3.2.1. Trackies, hoodies and baseball jackets being key feaatures, title font used was basic, we wanted it to be easily read and nothing to fancy, its a fairly down to earth; grass roots drama, so simplicity was our main objective. Characters are introduced by having shots of them out then freeze frames, use of editing to improve the effectiveness of teaser trailer.
Images of close up shots have been freeze framed in order to allow the audience to familerise themselves with the actor, this also matches the beat of the soundtrack.
Generally the camerawork was handheld in order to create a more realistic feel, which we thought to fit into the mood of the genre.
All of the titles and intertitles share the same font of poplar, however they all vary in size depending on importance and the amount of text needing to be shown in the shot. For example the film title is a big font in order to fill a large amount of the page whereas the summer 11 intertitle is smaller size.
This story isnt very clear through the viewing of the trailer, therefore there is a high sense of enigma. This is good as a large number of trailers use enigma as a technique of attracting their audience without letting out too much information on the plot.
The genre in British Urban Drama. This is suggested through the trailer through the setting in the club and in the cars. It is also set up by the costume and characters as they have a late teen stereotype which the target audience are intended to belong to.
The characters are introduced; starting in the club, a famous location for being an attraction for young people (the audience), on the side of a street, a commonly known place where the stereotyped characters and age group are known for being found
the final character is introduced in his car. A known interest of the target audiece as they are all beginning to learn and pass their driving tests. Special effects are used in a basic standard. An example from on of the screen grabs is the speeding up of the top left image.
Film Poster editing

Final piece
I took three different shots of max facing at different angles, I then used adobe illustrator to edit them all into one picture. The aim of this is to have a finalised picture with max in the shot three times. This helps add a slightly frightful and edgy feel to the poster.

Final piece Film poster
This is the poster I have personally choose to use as I believe the discomforting feeling it gives with the jumbled wording, yet simple layout is eye catching and effective. The picture i think is ideal as it shows an underground shot, yet scenes of a busy city in the background. This portrays our 'sub urban' theme perfectly.
Here is a print screen of me editing on Adobe photo shop, I added the text in a jumbled order, in a vertical layout, to improve its chances of standing out.

Research & Planning - Costume Ideas
Our film 'Sub-urban Nightmare' will be based around the suburbs of London, stereotypically the teenagers are fairly fashion conscious. In the particular area we are filming and basing are film in its certainly not at extremely affluent area however are wealthy enough to be able to afford up to date clothing. Here are some images of the kind of clothing our actors will wearing, fashionable yet not big designer branded clothing.
Black trainers, however when filming the trainers we will use will be scruffy to represent, the more lazy , un-groomed appearance.
Standard black jeans, nothing to stand out too much, jeans faded again to represent that's there not brand new, however they don't have holes or anything to shabby looking.

Research & Planning - Sound 6
We intend to use some already established skills of the group on the software fruity loops to create our soundtrack for the trailer. Intending to create a fairly high paced meldoy, with the aim of creating as much tension in the short time we have available. Below is a picture of the software.

We'll also need to consider, ensuring we are concise in what we say as we only have a limited amount of time for diolougue within the trailer. The teaser trailer is only designed to grab the audiences attention, therefore its important we have got to say something catchy, and leave the viewer wanting to see more.

Research & Planning - Feedback
After doing my power point, my group and I received the following feedback:
- Set the trailer up as an Action film then at the end introduce the factor of a Urban film, the action will get the audience excited and involved, the deeper storyline can come later. This leaves the viewer at bay however intrigued to watch more.
- A highbrid genre would consequently mean my trailer would be very post modern, meaning I would have a lot to discuss in my evaluation.
- For the possible scene at the end where Myself and Max have a fight, we have fake blood left over from last years media piece to improve realism.
- Our choice of music has to be very specific, a slow melody can be used if there it builds into a crescendo, else a fairly fast paced beat is needed to empathise on the first tempo.
- Look at certifications. If my film is going to be a 15, what can and cant be displayed?
- The title. We chose, 'Suburban Nightmare' this was approved of by everyone as they agreed it represented our stortyline of these children not quite reaching the brightlights, within the city.
